 National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day is celebrated annually at public lands in the United States on the fourth Saturday of September.

National Public Lands Day

Bahia Honda State Park

t is with great regret that The Friends of Bahia Honda must cancel our annual National Public Lands Day event at Bahia Honda State Park. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has upended many aspects of daily life in this country, and our public lands are no exception. Due to social distancing requirements remaining in place for the foreseeable future, many public lands sites will be unable to host in-person NPLD events. The Friends of Bahia Honda State Park encourage you to find a bit of land that is near and dear to you and tend to it with care, in honor of National Public Lands Day. Stay well and be safe.

Friends of Bahia Honda State ParkVolunteer

In September of 2019, we had 50 volunteers sign up and gather to collect trash on Sandspur Beach in honor of National Public Lands Day which promotes volunteer conservation of public lands.  We collected 1100 pounds of trash in 3 hours.  The Friends provided a light breakfast and lunch with a gift card from local sponsor Winn Dixie of Big Pine Key.
We are scheduled to participate again in this national event on September 26, 2020.
