Calusa Beach Parking Lot Beautification Project

Why This Project?

Hurricane Irma caused extensive damage to the park.  The park looked for a way to not only beautify the north side of the Calusa Beach parking lot, but to find a way to hold in the sand at the dunes and allow vegetation to regrow.

Calusa Beach Parking Lot Beautification

Thanks to the supporters of the Friends of Bahia Honda, we purchased paving stones and adhesive to line the newly fenced area with a short wall at a cost of $2,500.  The park staff was utilized for the design and building of the wall.

Project Completion and Details

In May 2019, the project was completed.  Since that time, foliage has grown back in the dunes, the sand stays behind the wall and visitors are directed through walkway to the beach, rather than through the dunes.
